Regional Director Position Description


Term of Service: Elected position, three-year term, June 1-May 31


Major function or purpose of office:

  • Serves on NSELA’s Board as a representative of science leaders from one of NSELA’s six regions.

  • Contributing member of one of the standing committees


NSELA Board

  • Serves as voting member

  • Carefully reviews information requiring Board approval, including the budget

  • Attends spring Board meeting prior to NSTA National Conference (travel covered by NSELA)

  • Attends fall Board meeting if convened (travel covered by NSELA)

  • Participates in monthly evening virtual Board meetings

  • Submits reports of activity to the President, Executive Director and NSELA Board

  • Other duties as assigned by the President

  • Submit Annual Board Report prior to Spring Board meeting

Communication to their region from NSELA and from the region to NSELA

  • Utilizes the NSELA Wild Apricot platform for communication with the region members as appropriate, such as welcoming new members and encouraging lapsed members to renew their membership

  • Seek opportunities to highlight regional or national activities, awards, and affiliates to submit to the Communication Committee

  • Utilize the WildApricot platform to encourage submission of OLISE, VESELS, and *HELT award candidates. (*new award pending sponsorship to fund)


Collaboration within the Region Director Group

  • Support the onboarding of incoming Regional Directors

  • Stay connected with the other Regional Directors
