Science Education Leadership: A Systems Approach
A characteristic of effective leadership is the ability to think about systems—how parts relate to one another and to the whole. Systems thinking can help leaders support science education by examining how components that make up a K-12+ system interact with and influence one another.
The theme for this year's NSELA Leadership Summit in Atlanta is "Science Education Leadership- A Systems Approach. The goal of a science education system is to provide all students with the opportunity to acquire the knowledge, understanding, and skills that they will need to become scientifically literate adults. Each session will focus on a critical part of the system and how it connects to other parts. The leadership summit will culminate in helping science leaders apply their learning to build their conceptual model of interacting parts of their own science education system and actions they can take to help the parts function effectively.

Request for Session Proposals
We need you! The NSELA professional development committee is seeking session proposals from our members. We are continuously amazed at the diverse organizations and jobs that our membership represents. NSELA's mission is to "catalyze leadership to maximize effective science teaching and learning in a complex and changing environment." We view this year's Leadership Summit theme as central to this mission.
Proposals should focus on interacting parts of the system that leaders have responsibility for in their work such as support for elementary science, equity, technology, professional learning, 3-D instruction, assessment, curriculum, and learning environments.
Submissions are due by Tuesday, January 31, 2023, at midnight. The professional development committee will review session proposals on a rolling basis.
