Description
This talk draws from data collected through surveys and interviews with LGBTQIA+ STEM professionals working in a range of fields across both academia and industry. Through our analysis we constructed a portrait of this population, proposed a model to understand queer STEM identity, and identified trends related to workplace practices that can inform inclusivity. Understanding the climate for professionals working in STEM fields is important for educators committed to helping address issues of diversity and representation related to gender and sexuality. The presentation will include suggestions for applying findings to educational practice in ways aligned with understandings of social justice informed by intersectionality.
